ITAPAGIPE COURO COLLECTION

The Itapagipe Couro Collection

This collection is more than leather. It’s a story—a journey to Salvador, Bahia, a city that pulses with vibrant color, music, and a deep sense of heritage. The striking patchwork leather and rich jewel tones found in every design are our tribute to this incredible, palpable energy.

A Deeper Connection

We wanted to honor the land's history in a way that felt truly authentic. Every piece in this collection is named in the Tupi language, the language of the region's first people.

The collection’s name, Itapagipe (pronounced ee-tah-pah-ZHEE-pay), comes from the Tupi words for "flat stone in the river." It represents a foundation, a base upon which so much of Salvador's identity rests.

For us, this collection is a new foundation—anchoring our commitment to storytelling, craft, and heritage. As you explore, you'll find each piece carries its own name, and with it, a piece of this story.

Featuring a striking patchwork leather exterior in rich jewel tones, this medium-sized pack offers plenty of room without feeling bulky. The durable leather construction means this backpack will age beautifully, developing character with every journey. Whether you're commuting to the office, heading to class, or exploring a new city, the Paripe carries what you need with style and ease.

The Name: Paripe

"Paripe" comes from the Tupi words pará (river/sea) and -pe or -ipe (shallow/in), meaning "shallow river," "river of sand," or "where river meets sea." Paripe is a coastal Salvador neighborhood located where fresh water historically met the bay—a transition zone between land and water. I chose this name for the backpack because it embodies the idea of transitions and bridges. Just as Paripe connects land and sea, this backpack connects the different parts of your life—work and play, routine and adventure, home and the world. It's designed to carry you through every shift in your day, adapting to whatever comes next.

The Name: Pirajá

"Pirajá" comes from the Tupi words pirá (fish) and  (abundance/place/pond), meaning "fishpond" or "place of fish." Pirajá is one of Salvador's oldest neighborhoods, named for the indigenous fishing traditions and waterways that sustained the area's original communities. I chose this name because a dopp kit, like a pond, is a vessel—a container that holds life's essentials. Just as fish gather in a pond, your daily necessities gather here, ready for wherever your journey takes you. It's practical, purposeful, and rooted in Salvador's history.

The Kirimurê Handbag is a celebration of timeless elegance and everyday functionality. Crafted from rich, multi-toned patchwork leather, this bag features a sophisticated hobo-style silhouette that drapes beautifully over the shoulder. The spacious main compartment has room for all your daily essentials—wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, makeup, and more—while maintaining a refined, streamlined look. The adjustable shoulder strap can be worn comfortably all day, and the quality leather will develop a gorgeous patina as it ages. This is the handbag that transitions effortlessly from morning meetings to evening dinners, carrying both your necessities and your sense of style.

The Name: Kirimurê

"Kirimurê" is an ancient Tupi word meaning "great calm water," "large inland sea," or "vast bay." It comes from kiri or y-kiri (calm/still), murê or muru (large/great), and 'y (water). This was the original Tupi name for the Bay of All Saints—the magnificent bay where Salvador was founded and which defines the city's geography and soul. I chose this name for the handbag because it represents expansiveness and grace. Just as the bay holds the city's ships, history, and life, this bag holds everything that matters in your day. There's something foundational about it—calm yet powerful, spacious yet refined—like the waters that made Salvador possible. Carrying Kirimurê means carrying a piece of that legacy with you.

The Name: Periperi

"Periperi" is derived from a type of marsh plant (peri-peri) abundant in wetlands, and in Tupi it refers to a "region of many plants" or "place of reeds." Periperi is a Salvador neighborhood named for the lush, marshy vegetation that characterized the indigenous landscape. I chose this name for the city satchel because it represents abundance and adaptability—like the plants that thrive in varied conditions, this bag adapts to your needs. "Itapuã" is Tupi for "erected stone" or "stone that snores"—named for the prominent rock formations on one of Salvador's most famous beaches. The word breaks down to itá (stone) and puã (round/erected), capturing the steadfast, grounded nature of the landmark. Itapuã is more than just a beach; it's a cultural icon, immortalized in music by Vinicius de Moraes and cherished by generations of Salvador residents. The Name: Abaeté

In the ancient Tupi language, "Abaeté" translates to "true man" or "person of worth"—a name that speaks to wisdom, integrity, and value. I chose this name because it reflects what this brief represents: a trusted companion for your professional life, something genuine and reliable. In Salvador, Bahia, Lagoa do Abaeté is a sacred freshwater lagoon revered by indigenous communities and central to spiritual traditions. It's a place of reflection and depth, much like the work you carry in this brief. Every time you use it, you're connected to that sense of purpose and authenticity.
