It’s a place that gets into your bones. It’s a land of profound, rugged contrast—the sharp, dramatic peaks of the Drakensberg, the vast, quiet emptiness of the Karoo, the electric energy of a Highveld thunderstorm.
Growing up there, you learn to respect things that are built to last. You learn about endurance—not from a textbook, but from the ancient, cracked earth and the red dust that gets into everything. You learn about beauty, not from a museum, but from the impossible, intricate design of a single flower blooming against a harsh landscape.
When I was last home in 2023, I stood on top of Table Mountain and took this picture—a King Protea, our namesake, blooming defiantly against the wind and rock. That is the beauty of resilience.
To be South African, for me, is to understand this. It’s to know that true character isn't a single, perfect moment. It’s a story told over time. It’s the patina. It's the wear. It's the proof of a life lived.
