The Story Behind it
This bag is personal. It was born from deconstruction—I took an old, oversized leather bag that had been sitting in my closet. It was the same bag I salvaged a strap from to make my very first watch strap. The zip was stripped, the lining was tired, and I just wasn’t using it. I decided to completely dissect it, saving the good leather, and rebuild it as something I would actually love and use, but still as a classic duffel. I added new, funky hair-on-hide panels to make heads turn, and the first version of this bag was born. It’s a piece built from my past, reimagined for the future. The Name: Drakensberg. The Drakensberg is a massive, epic, and awe-inspiring mountain range in South Africa, its name meaning ’Dragon’s Mountains.’ It’s a place of legends, endurance, and timeless beauty. We gave this name to our flagship duffel because it’s the only name that fits—a bag reborn from old materials, built with new-found strength and character. It’s a rugged, heirloom-quality piece ready for a lifetime of grand journeys. This is the ’Protea’ side of our brand, realized.
