The Story Behind it
This bag was an experiment in form. I wanted to move away from flat, square bags and build something with a unique, three-dimensional profile. The cylindrical ’barrel’ shape came to life in the workshop, and the heavy, hand-sewn cross-stitching on the ends became its signature.
It’s also finished with our signature "R" patch. That "R" has its own story. Before Protea & Maple was born, I was going to create a brand called ’Richardt.’ I designed that ’R’ to spell my name upright. I wrestled with it for weeks before deciding on a different path, and Protea & Maple was born. That ’R’ is a nod to the origins of the craft, and a personal mark I love to add to special pieces like this.
